With an intro that’ll make the breath catch in your throat ‘Blackpill’ is the first of ten tracks from a band who write the kind of choruses you wake up singing. ‘State of Mind’ is full of anthems, ambition and enough attitude to give it an edge. And that makes it an even more attractive listen. Alt power track ‘Silence is Deafening’ is full of heart. ‘Burning Bridges’ is a bliss inducing moreish mellow rocker. ‘Subterfuge’ throws down heavy riffs and basslines that mean business. The controlled chaos of three-piece Coldharbour can’t be confined to one genre. Each member contributes their own influences – and it shows. Spikey rager ‘Riptide’ will test your neck muscles when played live. ‘Last Stand’ digs down at the low end before emerging even stronger and sludgier. Penultimate track ‘Sonorous’ feels like the band have cut themselves free from musical chains and constraints, and is the sound of them doing just what the hell they like. ‘State of Mind’ manages to get even better with every listen. Completely obsessed.
