Crafting enchanting, electrifying soundscapes and creating energising crowds is Jehenna’s speciality. The Norfolk five-piece serve songs mixing mellow and monumental rock with soothing yet body-shifting beats, which soar over sparkling melodies. And whether they’re making the crowd sedately nod along or lose their collective shit in the pit, Jehenna are a fantastic band whose name, rather fittingly, comes from a fantasy…

‘It’s from a video game called ‘The Elder Scrolls’ they explain. ‘It’s a city in the very first game.’

So let’s introduce the band. After several line-up shifts and changing their name from Scarlet (which is lead singer and guitarist Emily’s middle name), Emily, Cameron, Joe, Emma and Zak joined forces to become Jehenna. Joe (bass) is Emily’s brother and while keyboard player Emma may not be related to the lead singer, their sisterly bond on stage is a joy to see. ‘We do have that raport,’ says Emma. ‘We’ve known each other for more than ten years,’ adds Emily. ‘And we’ve been in bands together before.’

With gorgeous glitterbombing vocals that are sparkly, explosive and that stay stuck with you for days, on top of mesmerising melodies, Jehenna’s music is uniquely theirs without ever sounding the same. Genre-wise they can’t be categorised or contained. As a band they cite their influences including Paramore, Evanescence and My Chemical Romance. As individuals their heroes are a proper eclectic melting pot. Emma tells us, ‘Everyone in the band is quite different in their tastes.’ Go on Emily – tells us your inspo first.

‘Mine is Ed Sheeran,’ she smiles.

‘My inspiration comes from progressive metal, metal core and pop punk,’ says Cameron. Zak adds, ‘I’m more of a Buckethead fan.’ And Joe is the classic metal fan of the band, ‘and all the emo stuff,’ he says. ‘We get compared to Tool and Evanescence quite a bit,’ Emily tells us.

While all five members of Jehenna agree they’re predominantly a live band, Emma explains, ‘We’re trying to replicate how we feel live to people listening at home.’ They’re also in the process of growing their fanbase, so as well as playing legendary local venues like The Brickmakers and the B2 in Norwich, Jehenna have also been sprinkling their magic on festival stages including Call of the Wild and Cambridge Rock Festival. ‘It’s a scene we’re trying to break into,’ says Emma. ‘There’s a different type of crowd at festivals.’

Jehenna are plotting to spin their web of pure yet powerful, angelic and atmospheric rock well into the future, far and wide. And we cannot wait to get caught in it.
