The Empty Page

A Feminine Ending

Via Kycker

Out Wednesday March 18!!!

Kings and Queen of the haunting, hazy, heart-breaking riff and carrying the crown for creating spinetingling atmospherics through song, The Empty Page write with wit and wisdom, fuelled by despair and disbelief. Lead vox and bassist Kel Page can do catchy. She can do cutting. She can conjure nostalgia so bloody vivid you ARE on that night out (‘Dry Ice’ – one of yer girl’s faves). But Kel is at her best when she’s almost at breaking point. And that is this new single. Her voice cracks on ‘A Feminine Ending’ as she desperately pleads and then lets go of all hope and replaces it with fight, feeling and fuck it.

This is a song about being a woman who is ageing in today’s shitshow society – and therefore invisible to the male gaze, yet encouraged by those same screwed up patriarchal eyes to spend a fortune on anti-aging products containing ingredients that sound worse than a GCSE chemistry experiment. Gone wrong. Kel’s sweet vox is full of venom as she grits her teeth to get this across. There’s a knowing in her lyrics that to embrace aging – as a woman – is freedom. But an utter dread for our daughters who are the next victims. There’s a bazillion reasons why we love The Empty Page here at GGW. ‘A Feminine Ending’ is yet another one. IYKYN. It’s breathtaking.
