Virtues
The Hot One Two
Self Released
Out on October 10!!!
Starting stronger than a 6.3 litre V8 The Hot One Two rip into opening track ‘The Reaper’ staring straight ahead. Fuck any sideways glances. It’s eyes front for this Cambridge quartet and they’ve focused their second album ‘Virtues’ on one destination. The top. Leave a mark? You’ll be lucky. ‘Virtues’ is gonna leave a scar. ‘Alive Again’ is anthemic. Low-end bothering ‘Blow Your Mind’ has the decency to do just that, with rib-splintering riffs, explosive vocals and a total defiance of being anything but the best. It’ll be all you can do to stop mashing the repeat button on this monster. Slowing the pace down a slight on ‘Saint Restraint’ doesn’t mean the loudness has to follow suit. Pulverising pep talk ‘Grindstone’ is pure power. On the flip side of all this unrestrained hard rock debauchery, stripped back, raw ‘Distant Love Affair’ puts a temporary hold on the slap-you-round-the-face heft that tears through ‘Virtues’ and hits you straight in the heart. Despite the fact the band are focusing on sweetness and light in this album (the theme of the more shady side of things ran though their debut ‘Superbia’), without a doubt – ‘Virtues’ is darker. It’s a voluptuous record with volume, swagger and strength. And it suits you boys.
